Christie This UK pop trio was formed around vocalist / bassist / songwriter Jeff Christie, with Vic Elmes – guitar and Mike Blakeley – drums. This line–up enjoyed a UK No. 1 hit in May 1970 with Jeff’s composition YELLOW RIVER, a song he originally wrote for The Tremeloes, but then decided to record it himself, although The Tremeloes were on backing vocals. Incidentally, The Tremeloes featured Mike’s brother, Alan Blakeley. The follow–up, SAN BERNARDINO also reached the Top 10, and the trio, by now featuring Paul Fenton on drums, had further hits in 1971 / 1972 with MAN OF MANY FACES, IRON HORSE and EVERYTHING’S GONNA BE ALRIGHT.
