Christie This UK pop trio was formed around vocalist / bassist / songwriter Jeff Christie, with Vic Elmes – guitar and Mike Blakeley – drums. This line–up enjoyed a UK No. 1 hit in May 1970 with Jeff’s composition YELLOW RIVER, a song he originally wrote for The Tremeloes, but then decided to record it himself, although The Tremeloes were on backing vocals. Incidentally, The Tremeloes featured Mike’s brother, Alan Blakeley. The follow–up, SAN BERNARDINO also reached the Top 10, and the trio, by now featuring Paul Fenton on drums, had further hits in 1971 / 1972 with MAN OF MANY FACES, IRON HORSE and EVERYTHING’S GONNA BE ALRIGHT. Further hits followed, with FOOLS GOLD in 1973, THE DEALER, I’M ALIVE, NAVAJO and MOST WANTED MAN in 1975. Jeff Christie has won many awards, including the much coveted Ivor Novello Songwriter’s Award for YELLOW RIVER, which is considered today a rock / pop classic, with worldwide sales now in excess of 15,000.000. CHRISTIE were the first Western band to play behind the Iron Curtain, as it was then, and also the first British group to tour the South and central American countries. Recording in Spanish became a trade mark of CHRISTIE and they became so big that Argentina gave them their own 90 minute TV show. Jeff Christie has continued to tour, with various line-ups and also has completed several successful TV performances, including ‘The Unforgettables’ TV show in the early 80’s. Still working today, assisted by Kevin Moore on bass guitar and vocals, Adrian Foster on lead guitar and vocals and Simon Kay on drums and vocals.
